A story to tell…

“I suppose in the end, the whole of life becomes an act of letting go, but what always hurts the most is not taking a moment to say goodbye.”

( Khan Irrfan,as Pi in The Life of Pi(2012), director: Ang Lee, Fox 2000 pictures)

The dialogue on the silver screen was not far removed from the words of the original novel:

“It’s important in life to conclude things properly. Only then can you let go. Otherwise you are left with words you should have said but never did, and your heart is heavy with remorse.”
( Yann Martel in Life of Pi)

Ironically, the media quoted the same lines in remembrance as Irrfan Khan lost his battle to cancer, during the Covid lockdown. Hard hitting but true that there are such wonderful words spoken and written for all the departed persons, but we miss out on letting the departed know all the untold, unsaid good n loving thoughts that could have left a smile on that dear face… could have made the person feel wanted and loved, during his/her lifetime.

Many cinestars, fine leaders, great sportsmen, doctors, health workers, policemen etc departed from this world during the lockdown, some due to other ailments but most with Covid 19. Many many more, some friends, some acquaintances, some friends of friends… some-just people in a random house in some corner of a country and some part of the world… people just departed after losing the battle with Covid 19…Did they get a chance to bid adieu to their loved ones? Aren’t there many such people in your stories?

And we all have a story to tell. Some tragic, some sad, many full of miracles and the rest commemorative of days and events, but these times have surely given birth to stories. The future generations that are toddling around with naive fledgling memory or are yet to be born will hear about it and wonder in amazement- of how the world came to a standstill.

So, we started the New Year with prayers and wished good tidings to all, hoping that the world heals fast and we don’t make pandemics, lockdowns, homeschooling and ‘Work from Home’ the new norm in the years to come. The human race is sure to strive to make pleasant memories this time on, as the Covid 19 Pandemic has been a great eye opener. It is very clear that in the end, we all will become characters of stories, some oft repeated while most remembered only on occasions…

A beautiful song comes to mind , which exemplifies the mystery behind the meaning of life… Sung by Late Manna Dey, it is a gem from the Hindi movie Anand

Very rightly pointed out dilemma people face.

Anand was a phenomenal character who taught us plenty abt life.

My favourite from Anand— “Kahi dur jab din dhal jaaye ….”
