Maad bhaat chokha

What’s your go-to comfort food?

Yes daily prompt readers, this is total bliss in a bowl.

Its a simple rice gruel with mashed potatoes combo, called “maad bhaat chokha” in Bihar ( a province in India).

Its an ‘easy cook and warm on the pallet’ food which brings back memories of parents, grandma and my homeland. The soul gets satiated at the end of a gruelling day if I can just manage this one pot stuff ( as the potatoes get boiled along with the rice) adding to the comforting starchiness.

I have found its cousins in Kanji( Kerala) and Konji ( Singapore!) I am sure there are dozens of cousins all over India and the world 😊

The smoked red chilli, onion slice and lemon are taste enhancers…
