Brain Rot

The year is ending… just 48 hrs more…of reel watching, nonsense canned laughter and endless scrolling… I am stopping it all in 2025.

Oxford University has identified Brain Rot as the word of the year! I can’t agree more… what with all that useless, senseless, meaningless “content” clogging the brain and driving youth and even the senior lot crazy!

Have you ever landed on YouTube/ Insta/ Fb to check out one thing and then found yourself touching content baits and reels for the next hour or so?

Do you feel restless without scrolling through the social media sites?

Probably, yes!

On a deeper level, brain rot is described by the Newport Institute as “a condition of mental fogginess, lethargy, reduced attention span and cognitive decline that results from an overabundance of screen time.” People, mostly youth – students own an average of two devices each, and 78% admit to using multiple screens at once – it’s tempting to put two and two together. Is banal, pointless content causing cognitive decline?( Google research)

Welcome to the Brain rot. You are not alone. We have devised our own degeneration. When hundreds of years later, they discover our times from beneath, I am sure all the fossils and stuff will indicate towards the annihilation of the civilizations due to Brain rot.

On the flip side, you can identify those irritating canned laughter and meme music even on a seemingly deserted street or  station! You can spot the blue glow on faces from afar! You have company- fear not! Land ahoy!

I too have two more days to give up this habit 😁 let me make the most of it…

WordPress yet again ☺

Your resolve to break free from the endless scroll in 2025 is truly inspiring! It’s a bold step toward reclaiming focus, creativity, and meaningful living. Wishing you all the strength to stick to this decision—you’re definitely not alone in this journey!

Here’s to a new year of clarity, purpose, and intentional living. Keep writing and inspiring others to do the same!👍🎉👌

  2. Ironically, I got caught in a loop for about an hour this morning and had a bit of a jolt back to reality and closed the silly YT app. I try not to spend too much time on that silliness but from time to time it catches me unawares lol
