Ice candy!

Which food, when you eat it, instantly transports you to childhood?

Golden Lollipop

Ice candies continue to be a favorite, some childhood loves go on forever…

Golden Ice cream company was the reigning king of ice creams in my city, where I spent all my childhood. I so vividly remember how my day at school would remain incomplete until and unless I had had a go at the orange ice candy called the Lollipop.

It usually became the first food item during the recess for lunch. The lunch box could wait. The ice candies were always the first to be a complete sold out… so we had them first. The three of us- Arpita, Swastika and me.

It was the best-  ice candy time with friends.

Juicy, tangy and sweet, so refreshing and so budget friendly! it was the cheapest ice candy on offer with the ice-candy man at our school.

Then youth and marriage happened, tastes underwent reforms as sundaes, gelatos and other elaborate versions appeared on the scene. But the cells of my soul craved only the orange ice candy when I got into the family way 😁 I could have it every day, all over again ❤

Even now, when faced with a display box full of variety of options with ice creams from Belgium and Italy vying for my attention, the heart still misses a beat at the sight of the humble orange ice candy… I go back to my school days, we three soul sisters, celebrating every day with our golden lollipop! And I still go for the orange ice candy.

  1. Oh my God… this post just hit straight to the heart! 🧡 I could literally taste the orange ice candy as I read each word… and yes, those recess moments are still etched so vividly! Arpita, you and I – our golden trio with our golden lollipops – what a time that was! No dessert in the world, however fancy, can ever match the joy of those simple ice candy moments shared with soul sisters. Thank you for taking me back to that innocent, laughter-filled lane of childhood. We truly had the sweetest memories… and the juiciest ice candies! 😊
