…just like that, it will happen…

The chaos that exists within these walls will come to an end.

The noise and the hum of a family unit will taper down to two middle aged people living in a flat somewhere, existing quietly between visits and phone calls.

The fact remains that the intense universe we spin around “playing home” that exists and then exits our sphere with that progeny flying out… is incomprehensible by many and unfathomable for some.

I know they call it the “empty nest syndrome” and I am already dreading it.

What brought this on, you may ask? Well, in the last couple of months, I  have been observing  a pretty ” Red whiskered Bulbul couple” tend to its eggs in our garden, atop one of the flower trees. Day and night, they kept vigil, while the eggs got ready to hatch. I saw them feeding the chicks, imparting flying training and then finally one fine day … the empty nest!

In this case, the parents left too. Sad.

However,  a couple of days ago, this happened:

Yet again 😁

We have spotted new tenants from the same species on the branches, inspecting the empty nest, trying to occupy the same … wise birds, I must say😃

  1. So beautifully written, Sushmita… felt every word. Yes, the thought of an empty nest tugs at the 💓, but I truly believe it also opens up a quiet, golden space….where we rediscover ourselves and reignite passions that once took a backseat in the beautiful chaos of ‘familying.’ Maybe this phase is life’s gentle way of giving us back to ourselves. 💛
