Yoga

What is your favorite form of physical exercise?

We have a community yoga session everyday.

It became my fav, coz I stumble out of bed, don my yoga attire, chug my mat along and just wait to get into “Shavasan” ( the dead body pose) The blissful post sleep stupor takes on.

Then our Yoga guru🙏 ( coach) who most certainly is a kind hearted soul, usually starts with very lame Warm up postures and rigors! We breathe some, exale lots…  then, its Shavasan once again!

So in the one hour session, I have at least five Shavasanas, and to them we get to add a baby pose, crocodile pose and some more of lying supine poses…all in all,a very comfortable session, usually.

Time up, do a proper cooling down in Shavasan😆, pray to god, then mother Earth, bless ourselves and then roll up your mat and saunter out.

Jokes apart, Yoga is very scientific; has helped me with my unusual joint pains and muscle issues in addition to core strengthening, and it is a real freshening start to the day!

  1. Thank you for sharing your wonderful experiences with yoga Sushmita. They were truly motivating.

I am a middle-aged man, 43 years old, married to a well-organized wife, and blessed with a daughter. I work in the IT sector and have been doing a night shift for almost 16 years. Thankfully, I do not have to deal with additional responsibilities such as managing family expenses, maintaining taxes, or paying electricity bills. My wife takes care of all these matters efficiently. My role is simply to transfer my entire salary to her account after keeping aside a small portion for my personal expenses, which are quite minimal nowadays. In short, I am free from the stress of managing family responsibilities.

However, I am quite whimsical by nature, and this often affects both my personal and professional life. I was once told that meditation can help calm the mind and improve focus. So, I began a small five-minute routine where I concentrate on my breathing—focusing on each inhale and exhale. It has been almost four months since I started this practice. Although I cannot manage to do it daily, I still try to meditate at least three times a week. Despite my efforts, my mind often wanders, and various thoughts keep crowding in, making it hard for me to focus.

I understand that meditation is an essential part of yoga, but I feel that I have not been successful in it. Could you please suggest some ways to improve my focus and make meditation more effective for me?

    1. Good to know about you n your journey so far, Ritwik. As l too am a student of Yoga, can only suggest what works for me.In Pranayam, getting into Nadi Shuddhi, pacing it and slowly increasing the counts gets my mind organised. Try it. If you have a guru, take his advice.
